Quick Behaviour Consultation
Not sure what's going on with your dog? A quick behaviour consultation gives you expert guidance on what you're seeing, whether it needs further assessment, and what your next steps should be.
What is a quick behaviour consultation?
A quick behaviour consultation is a focused session designed to help you understand what's happening with your dog's behaviour and whether further intervention is needed. It's not a full behaviour modification program — it's a professional starting point.
Led by Dr. Liam Clay — PhD in Canine Behaviour and Australia's first Veterinary Behaviour Technician — you get science-backed advice, not guesswork.
Behaviour overview
We review what you're seeing and identify the likely function of the behaviour.
Risk & urgency check
We assess whether the situation requires immediate management or can be addressed over time.
Clear next steps
You leave with a practical recommendation — whether that's a full consultation, a referral, or simple management strategies.
Who is this for?
New behaviour concerns
Your dog has recently started showing behaviour that worries you — growling, snapping, hiding, or not settling.
Adopted or rescue dogs
You've recently adopted a dog and want professional guidance on what you're seeing in the first weeks.
Pre-referral clarity
Your vet has suggested a behaviour consultation and you want to understand what's involved before committing.
Second opinion
You've had advice from a trainer or behaviourist and want an independent, science-based perspective.
Professionals seeking input
Veterinarians, trainers or shelter staff wanting a quick consult on a specific case or behaviour question.
Unsure where to start
You know something isn't right but don't know if it's a training issue, a behaviour problem, or something medical.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as a full behaviour consultation?
No. A quick consultation is a focused starting point to help you understand what's happening and what to do next. A full behaviour consultation involves a comprehensive assessment, detailed behaviour history, and an individualised behaviour modification plan.
Do I need a vet referral?
For a quick consultation with AABA, no. However, if a full behaviour modification program is recommended, clinical behaviour consultations through FPTA require a veterinary referral.
How long does it take?
Quick consultations are typically 30–45 minutes, depending on the complexity of the concern.
Can you help with aggressive dogs?
Yes. We can assess the situation, provide immediate safety guidance, and recommend the appropriate next steps — whether that's a full behaviour assessment, a referral, or management strategies.
Do you offer remote consultations?
Yes. Quick consultations can be conducted via video call for initial assessment and guidance.
